Moab Valley Fire Department honors 2023 Firefighter and Officer of the Year

Volunteer officers of the Moab Valley Fire Department recently bestowed the 2023 Firefighter of the Year Award upon Kirsten Broderick and the 2023 Officer of the Year award on Eyan Mosher, recognizing their outstanding service to the people of Moab Valley.

Firefighter of the year

Originally from Mancos, Colorado, Kirsten Broderick has called Moab home for the past 8 years and has been a dedicated member of the Moab Fire Department for 3 years. Her motivation for becoming a firefighter stemmed from a lifelong interest in emergency services and a desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

“I am honored to serve an amazing community next to such selfless and dedicated individuals,” Broderick said.

Chief TJ Brewer commended Broderick, highlighting her dedication to community service.

“Kirsten is committed to serving her community as a member of the fire department and responds to fire calls regardless of the time of day or night,” Brewer said. “She is eager to learn and always up for the challenge. Kirsten also plays a crucial role in making our social media platforms successful, working hard to provide relevant content to the community. This honor is well-deserved.”

In her spare time, Broderick, who resides in Moab with her partner Morgan Frayser, enjoys photography and art.

Officer of the Year

Volunteer firefighters of the Moab Valley Fire Department also recognized Eyan Mosher with the 2023 Officer of the Year Award for his exceptional leadership and service to the department.

Mosher’s connection with the Moab Fire Department is deeply rooted, as his father was also a member. Having attended training sessions from a young age, Mosher officially became a member at the qualifying age of 18. Actively participating in various training opportunities, he is part of the Hazmat and Dive teams and serves as an instructor for training sessions. Mosher, who has been a member of the department for 10 years, said he continues to look forward to every Wednesday night training.

“Eyan is a very prepared and knowledgeable firefighter,” Chief Brewer said. “He has a great way of communicating his knowledge while teaching. Training new firefighters is the foundation of any good fire department, and having someone like Eyan on our training cadre is a huge asset to making Moab Fire Department among the best. Lt. Eyan Mosher is most deserving of the 2023 Officer of the Year award.”

Mosher, born and raised in Moab, resides with his wife, Ashle, and their two children. He works at the Moab UMTRA site as a radiological control technician and enjoys leatherwork and baking in his spare time.
