Cosmo’s Corner: High School Art Exhibit

Meow and welcome to 2024 everyone!  It’s Cosmo again, library cat and connoisseur of the arts. If you’ve visited Grand County Public Library recently, you might have noticed that we have a new art exhibit featuring winners from the Annual All-State Utah High School Art Competition sponsored by the Springville Museum of Art and Utah Division of Arts and Museums.

I make a point to stop by this exhibit on my daily library patrol and I am truly impressed by the diverse talent displayed by these young humans. One of my favorites, “Mob of Luck,” features a jaunty collection of adorable lucky cat figurines. I also really like “The House in the Snow,” a beautiful snowy scene with a charming house surrounded by woodland animals.

Since the exhibit displays such a wide variety of styles, mediums and subjects, there is bound to be something among the works that especially appeals to you. There’s the whimsical “Pomology,” a colorful series of figures with fruit for heads (hard to describe, but very cool!). Or perhaps you prefer moody black and white photography, like “Dreams,” featuring a person standing alone under the streetlights, wearing a lampshade on their head. Please come to the Moab library and admire the work of these talented youngsters yourself.

The art is displayed across from the circulation desk and in the large meeting room of the library.

Ciao for now. I’ll see you at the library.
