This fall, voters will choose three new members to sit on Moab’s city council; Ballots will be mailed out to registered voters residing in the City of Moab in the next few weeks. The 2023 municipal election will be conducted by mail, but voters can also vote in person.
As of October 16, there were 2,804 active registered voters in the city, according to Grand County’s Chief Deputy Clerk/Elections Specialist, Dana Van Horn. According to the 2022 U.S. census, around 5,320 people live in the city, meaning around 47% of people are not registered as active voters.
Election Day this year is on November 21 in Utah—in June, Gov. Spencer Cox signed a proclamation changing the date from November 7 to accommodate a special election to fill the Utah 2nd Congressional District U.S. House Seat, which was vacated on Sept. 15 by Rep. Chris Stewart.
There are five candidates running for the three council seats: Tawny Knuteson-Boyd (incumbent), Kaitlin Myers, Colin Topper, Patrick Robbins, and Brad Woodford. The three elected will join Luke Wojciechowski and Jason Taylor as council members, and will serve a four-year term.

Register to vote
The deadline to register to vote is Friday, November 10. You can complete voter registration online at voter.utah.gov, or in person at the Grand County Clerk’s office. The clerk’s office is located at 125 E. Center St., and is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
To register to vote, you must be a citizen of the United States, have been a resident of Utah for at least 30 days prior to Election Day, be at least 18 years old on or before November 21, and reside at the address where you are registering.
You can also mail a completed Utah Voter Registration Form to the Grand County Clerk’s office.
Once you receive your ballot in the mail, you must complete and postmark it by November 20. You can also drop off your ballot in person at the Grand County Clerk’s Office or in the ballot drop box at the City of Moab Recorder’s Office (271 E. Center St, second floor, open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays).
Voters can vote in person on November 21 at the Grand County Clerk’s Office. If you miss the registration deadline on November 10, you can still vote in person—you’ll just need to present two forms of identification, including one that shows your current Moab City address, to register in person on Election Day.
