Cosmo’s Corner: Getting crafty

Hello everyone, it’s Cosmo the library cat, meow! Halloween is coming soon and I’m looking forward to seeing the kids in their fun costumes. I also love admiring all the Halloween arts and crafts projects. Sadly, I must act in a supervisory capacity when it comes to crafting, since scissors and crochet hooks were not designed with cat paws in mind. However, for my human friends, there are many resources at Grand County Public Library that you can use to make your own amazing Halloween-themed creations. I’m always so impressed with human creativity!

CreativeBug, a free online site that you can access with your Grand County Library card, has instructional videos for decorating Halloween baked goods and all sorts of Halloween crafts, including pumpkin dioramas, trick or treat bags, and even an adorable crocheted black cat! Even if I could crochet, I probably wouldn’t do this project since I can see an adorable black cat anytime I look in the mirror. But you definitely should!

The library also has several books about Halloween decorating and crafts like “Halloween: 101 Frightfully Fun Ideas.” I am especially excited about a new children’s book, “The Usborne Book of Face Painting,” which has easy-to-follow instructions for a variety of super-cool designs. Page 18 even has a Tuxedo Cat design! (As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.) There are also robot faces, tiger and panda faces, and even space alien designs.

This seems like a purr-fect time to remind everyone that black cats are NOT scary, and we do not bring bad luck. Quite the contrary, we are the sweetest, most loving critters you’ll ever meet, and what could be luckier than that? So be extra kind to your animal friends of all colors! Happy Halloween, everyone.
