Cosmo’s Corner: Cosmo’s 2023 Fall Style Guide

Bonjour, mes amis.  It’s Cosmo the library cat.  September has begun, meaning it’s time to say goodbye to summer activities and fashions (so last month) and hello to fall trends. But what are the fall trends, you ask? Never fear, here is my second annual fall style guide that I have created just for you.

Out: The Summer Reading Program. Like all good things, it had to come to an end (until next year anyway).

In: Reading, which never goes out of style and is a great fall activity! We have a lot of exciting new books at the Grand County Public Library. Explore our selections either by browsing our online catalog (catalog.moablibrary.org) or by coming into the library and looking at our new book displays. We’ve also put up a fabulous display of books about science, just in time for the Moab Festival of Science (September 13-17).

Out: Cool treats.

In: Baked treats. I sure enjoyed eating icebox cake in July, but now I think it’s time to heat up the ovens. CreativeBug, which you can access with your library card from the Grand County Library website, has instructional videos on baking and decorating for those of you that want to create edible treats that are also works of art. There are also many recipe books at the library that focus on baking. By the way, if you feel inclined to bring some of your baked creations to the library for your favorite library cat, keep in mind that I am very partial to fish flavors.

Out: Stream programs. (Children’s programs involving water). Now that the worst of the heat is over, it’s no longer cool to get splashed.

In: Children’s STEAM programs. We’ve got several programs planned for this fall that will give kids a chance to learn, create and explore. More on this in future Cosmo’s Corners!

Out: Criticizing my use of wordplay.

In: Celebrating my genius.

Always in: Treating your animal companions well. Be sure to give your furry, feathery, or scaly friends tender loving care this month and tell them that Cosmo says “Hi!”
