Cosmo’s Corner: Roller Coaster storytime

Hello friends, meow to you. Where does a cat go to ride roller coasters? An a-mews-ment park of course! And for those of you about to write in complaining about that joke, don’t forget the second half of Oscar Levant’s famous quote: “A pun is the lowest form of humor-–when you don’t think of it first.” You’re welcome.

But why is your favorite library cat wasting precious space on jokes about amusement parks and roller coasters? Because dear reader, I want to invite you to a Roller Coaster-themed STEAM Storyhour next Tuesday (August 29) and I couldn’t think of a better segue.

For this Storyhour we’ll put our engineering skills to the test.  First we’ll hear a story or two about roller coasters and how they were invented. It turns out roller coasters have been around for a long time and were actually invented by Catherine the Great. (I am assuming this is why they call her “the Great.”) Then the kids will build model roller coasters out of paper and other materials and practice the engineering process: ask, imagine, plan, create, and test!

Come join us Tuesday, August 29 at 6:30 p.m. in Grand County Public Library’s large meeting room. This engineering story hour is designed for kids ages 3 to 10 and their caregivers, but as always, this program is open to all.
