Cosmo’s Corner: Water bottle rockets!

Greetings from your good pal Cosmo the Library Cat. The month of July is winding down, but there are still a couple more fun events at Grand County Public Library before we move on to August!

First, we hope you’ll join us on Tuesday, July 25 at 2 p.m. at the Center Street Ball Fields for “All Together with Bottle Rockets,” the last event of our Summer Reading Program. Bring sun protection, a bottle of water so you can stay hydrated, and wear clothes that you can get wet in: we will be setting off water bottle rockets and most likely getting splashed with water in the process! I usually try to avoid getting wet but I might make an exception this time because it’s so ridiculously HOT outside. The chance to cool off might be worth messing up one’s fur and whiskers, just this once! There will be free popsicles, popcorn, and bubbles too!

Next up is our Musical Story Hour. This will be in the library at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29. This musical story hour features special guest Lily Houghton, who will read the book, “Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt,” by Kate Messener. The story is about a girl observing different bugs, plants, and animals in the garden as she helps tend it. We will follow along with songs, claps, rhymes, and sounds. Houghton, a certified children’s yoga instructor, will also show some simple yoga poses to help us feel our best. I’m extremely good at stretching and I absolutely love dirt, so if any of the human children are confused by the yoga or need clarification on the finer points of pawing through dirt, I’ll be available to help demonstrate.

All Together with Bottle Rockets and our Musical Story Hour are both free and will be especially appealing to human children ages 3 to 10, but all ages are welcome, as always.
