Obituary: Sherilyn Sowell

Sherilyn Sowell, a longtime resident of Moab, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

Sherilyn graduated from Grand County High School in 1972. After high school, she married Royal Anthony Holter (Tony). She gained a son from Royal’s previous marriage and the couple had three children together. She lived in many places in Utah, but Moab was always home.

After returning to Moab, she met her second husband, Michial D. Sowell. She gained two more sons from his previous marriage and together they had two children. Her pride and joy from both unions were all her grandchildren, they all meant so much to her. Anyone who met her would know in the first five minutes she loved her grandchildren and her dog, Gidget.

Sherilyn worked with various child protection agencies over the years. She recently retired as the director of Family Support (Christmas Box House). She loved working in her community where she was most needed. She found so much joy in the youth of Moab. She loved all her friends and coworkers like they were family and cherished them.

The family of Sherilyn would like to say thank you to everyone that visited, helped, donated and prayed. Special thanks to Terri Sheets, Layla Migliori and April Walker for everything you did holding the fort down while she received treatments and long stays in the hospital.

Sherilyn is survived by her brother, Gary (Joyce) Livingston of North Las Vegas, Nevada; son Kyle A. Holter of Moab; stepsons, Mike (Serritta) Sowell of Vernal and Tony (Jennifer) Allred of Salt Lake City; daughters, Tracy (Johnny) Nettik of Rocky Ford, Colorado, and Brooke (James) Martin of Winchendon, Massachusetts, who is also the daughter of Deanne Livingston McGuffee, who passed December 7, 1999. Also many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins of whom she was so proud. Let’s not forget her beloved dog, Gidget.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michial D. Sowell; parents, Robert D Livingston and Ellen Ray Livingston (Byers); sister, Deanne Livingston McGuffee; sons, Kevin D. Holter, Robert “Cleve” Sowell and stepson Clifford Sowell; daughter, Kelly Rae Sowell and daughter-in-law Cyndi Shannon; and her first husband, Royal Anthony Holter.
