Obituary: Daphen Roean Bastian Ranch

Daphen Roean Bastian Ranch, Jan. 24, 1949 – March 12, 2022

Daphen Roean Bastian Ranch, age 73, passed away with family by her side on March 12, 2022, at Moab Regional Hospital. A special thank you to the hospital staff who provided loving care for her.

Daphen is survived by, and the loving mother of, Jeffery Ranch (Lisa) of Moriarty, New Mexico; Kimberly Ranch (Greg), and Gary Ranch (Nicole) of Moab, Utah. She was the dearest sister of Sharon Hunter (Dennis) of Ogden, Utah; Sandy Bastian of Moab, Utah; and Terry Cipriani (Mark) of Rocky River, Ohio. Daphen adored her 11 grandchildren: Robert, Kayla, Machelle, Nathaniel, Noah, Emmaline, Owen, Carson, Brianna, Evalyn and Chris; and her one great-grandson, Jason Jr. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Daphen was born on Jan. 24, 1949, to Newell Anthon and Vonda Larsen Bastian in Salina, Utah. In 1954, she moved to Moab where she spent the rest of her days. Daphen graduated from Grand County High School in 1967 and married Clifford Ranch, the love of her life, on Sept. 16 that same year.

She helped manage the A&W in Moab until it closed in 1990. Daphen then became very involved in serving others; she had a generous, kind heart. Whenever anyone needed medical attention or help in any way, at the drop of a hat, she was ready to help—no questions asked—and would stay for hours on end if needed. She really loved helping others, especially the elderly.

Daphen was very talented—she loved to crochet, knit, and do crafts. Daphen loved to cook and, oh, could she make food taste great. She loved the outdoors, especially the La Sal Mountains, which held a special place in her heart. And as everyone who knew her knows, she loved her pets.

Daphen is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Eugene Ranch; her parents, Newell and Vonda Bastian; her brother, Michael Bastian and his daughter, Jeanna; and her nephew, Michael Cipriani.

Daphen will be missed and remembered by many! Her smile will live on in our hearts forever.
