Junior Golf Returns to Moab: Golf professional teaches kids the basics

The Moab Golf Club is again offering golf lessons for youth between the ages of 6 to 15 years of age. The club’s head golf professional, Robbie Jones, said the program was started back in the 1960s to teach kids the basics of golf.

“We give them a feel for all aspects of the game,” Jones said. “We also talk about golf etiquette in addition to putting and chipping skills.”

The program also stresses the importance of honesty in the sport. It also helps build friendships among the participants while encouraging them to pursue an activity they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

“We want them to have fun while learning golf’s fundamentals,” said Jones. Members of the Grand County High School Golf Team assist Jones with the instruction.

The next Moab Golf Club Youth Camp runs from July 13 through July 15. The cost is $20 per golfer and clubs are available for participants’ use. Classes last about 90 minutes and different ages have different times to participate.
