Maureen Elise McGann passed away peacefully at Canyonlands Care Center on April 13, after a 10-month battle with brain cancer. Family meant everything to McGann so it was fitting she was surrounded by her children, sisters, brothers, nieces and her best friend.
McGann was the fifth of 13 children born to James and Marilyn McGann on July 13, 1954, in Hammond, Indiana. Her dad was thrilled when she was born; she was his first daughter. Marilyn and James raised nine handsome boys and four beautiful daughters. To say the least, she grew up in a loving, noisy, fun-filled home. She raised one daughter and two sons. McGann was thrilled to become a grandma and she considered them her greatest blessings.
Reading was her passion. She spent hours at the library hunting for the next novels to enjoy. She was a competitive Upwords and Scrabble player, especially with her sisters. She was the family historian; when anyone had a question about the family, they contacted McGann. She was happiest when surrounded by her family telling funny stories about growing up in a huge family.
McGann was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marilyn McGann; her brother, John McGann; and a sister, Annaclare Joslyn.
She is survived by her children, Tara Pfaff (Derek), Ryan Randolph (Claire) and Rory Randolph (Karen); her grandchildren, Zakary, D.J. Pfaff, Royce and Zella Randolph; her brothers, Tim, Kevin, Pat, Mike, Jim, Terry, Bill and Matt McGann; her sisters, Katy Bloomfield and Kara Jarman; and her best friend, Bob Phillips. She is survived by many, many, many nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as Aunt ReRe.
McGann had a fierce love and loyalty toward her family. She was a beautiful, gentle soul. Her love filled everyone with joy and she will be greatly missed.
