High school students watch mock DUI

Grand County High School students watched a helicopter land and take off as local first responders performed a mock DUI accident at the school on Thursday, Feb. 28. The Moab City Police Department said multiple local agencies and organizations were involved in the production of the demonstration, including the Utah Highway Patrol, Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County Search and Rescue, Grand County Dispatch, Moab Valley Fire Department, Grand County EMS, Classic Air Medical, Nation’s Towing and Spanish Valley Mortuary. The purpose of the mock DUI demonstration was to educate high school students about the dangers of reckless driving with a specific focus on driving while intoxicated, and engage students and school staff in a realistic display of a public safety emergency response to a serious traffic accident, the police department said.
