Graffiti at Canyonlands National Park’s False Kiva led to the alcoves closure on July 20, KSL-TV reports.
The kiva will remained closed until the National Park Service develops a plan for the site in the coming months. The trail to the alcove remains open and visitors can still view the kiva from a distance.
As of Aug. 22, the Southeast Utah Group of the National Park Service had not yet responded to local media requests for more information.
