Missing Boy Scout found safe in Gemini Bridges area

A 15-year-old Boy Scout was found safe and in good condition following an overnight search for him after he was reported missing during a mountain-biking trip in the Gemini Bridges area.

Kyler Wood was mountain biking with a Boy Scout Troop from Vineyard on Friday, Aug. 3. He was last seen at about 2 p.m. on a trail in the area. When Wood was reported missing at 2:50 p.m., it was stated that he did not have any water with him at the time that he was reported missing.

More than 20 searchers responded to help search for Wood. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Grand County Search and Rescue, National Park Service, and helicopters from Classic Air Medical and the Utah Department of Public Safety assisted in the search.

At 7:31 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office said that Wood had been located by a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter in the Gemini Bridges area. He was reportedly in good condition and flown to the command post on Gemini Bridge Road and checked out by the Grand County EMS.

“A great job by everybody,” Grand County Sheriff Steven White said. “It’s really fortunate that we found him and he was OK.”

Wood was located about 3 miles from the point where he was last seen, White said.
