The Grand County Lady Red Devils opened Region 15 play with a bang, beating Manti 51-46 in Moab on Friday, Jan. 5, and North Sanpete 43-36 on Saturday, Jan. 6,
Grand got off to a hot start against the Lady Templars, outscoring them 19-10 in the first quarter. However, they still found themselves having to come from behind late in the game for the win. Hannah Owen scored 17 points, while Veda Gritts scored 12 points and had 13 rebounds. Annabelle Garrett had eight points.
The following afternoon, the Lady Red Devils carried over their momentum and beat the Lady Hawks of North Sanpete 43-36. Gritts had 13 points, Owen had 12 and Mercedes Zunich had nine.
Grand, which has only 11 players on its roster, canceled the junior varsity games prior to each varsity contest, meaning only varsity was played. The Lady Red Devils are scheduled to be on the road versus Richfield on Friday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m.; versus South Sevier on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 2:30 p.m.; and versus Emery on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m.
