Vanesa Vasquez and Rowan Philips are the BEACON Afterschool All-Stars of the Month at Helen M. Knight Elementary.
Vanesa, the Academic All-Star of the Month, is a sixth-grader in Mrs. Scheu’s class. Her mother is Oyuki Leyva.
Barry Ellison, her tutor, nominated her this month.
“Vanesa always comes to BEACON ready to work,” he said. “She is very happy and ready to learn new things. Vanesa loves to help other people. She is a pleasure to have in my class.”
Rowan, the Enrichment All-Star of the Month, is a fourth-grader in Ms. Hamingson’s class. His parents are Dan and Kristi.
Rowan was nominated by his activity leader, Chap Grubb.
“Rowan has been an amazing example in all of his sports clubs,” Grubb said. “He diligently works on his homework. He is kind and respectful to all opponents. He shows integrity and always follows directions.”
Rowan said his favorite things about BEACON are playing sports and having fun.
