A photo that is circulating on social media sites purportedly shows a family vandalizing Corona Arch on U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands northwest of Moab.
BLM spokesperson Lisa Bryant said her agency can confirm that a recent incident of vandalism occurred at the arch.
The incident is currently under investigation, and the BLM is also assessing the resource damage, while making plans to address it. Additional information about the suspects was unavailable as of Wednesday, March 28.
Under federal law, deliberate acts of vandalism and damage to natural resources on BLM lands are illegal, and Bryant encourages public lands visitors to be responsible when they’re recreating.
The BLM appreciates the public’s help in protecting public lands by reporting incidents of illegal and unauthorized activities, so that agency officials can respond, she said.
