The second annual Soup Bowl Fundraiser and Ceramics Silent Auction is taking place on Saturday, Nov. 3, with proceeds benefiting the Seekhaven Family Crisis and Resource Center.
Following last year’s first fundraising effort, benefiting the Youth Garden Project, the Clay Artisans of Moab (CLAM) are at it again.
Gather from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with CLAM and Seekhaven volunteers to feast on locally made soups, breads and desserts.
Each ticket sold and bowl filled helps to support Seekhaven, which will use the funds to expand its food programs at the shelter.
The food program expansion will allow for quality food to be provided that is beyond “just the basics.” In addition, regular meetings and classes about food and healthy eating will be held.
Ticket holders can pick from a wide variety of locally made ceramic bowls and take them home. Along
with the food and shared experience, people may place bids during the Ceramics Silent Auction, the only “all ceramics” auction, taking place at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center (MARC), 111 E. 100 North.
Anyone, ticket holders or passersby, can stop by the MARC lobby during the event to bid on the auction items. The auction also allows bidders to immediately purchase auction items at the “buy it now” price and walk away with handmade items.
Tickets to last year’s Soup Bowl Fundraiser sold out. Event organizers suggest purchasing tickets early, but remaining tickets not sold in advance will be for sale at the door on the day of the event.
Once a person chooses their bowl, they may choose their favorite soup or two, all donated and created by local chefs and restaurants. And along with soups to please meat-eaters, there will be vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. Complement any soup with many different breads, followed by desserts, all from local bakers. Moab Folk Festival concert attendees are welcome to stop by between shows for dinner at the Soup Bowl Fundraiser.
CLAM is a loosely organized group of ceramists that comes together to bring their art and craft to the community.
The Soup Bowl Fundraiser, initiated in Moab by Barb Gregoire of Desert Sun Ceramics, is CLAM’s main fundraising effort. The event brings dozens of potters together to create hundreds of one-of-a-kind bowls for a cause. For CLAM, food is the main focus, and functional pottery in the form of soup bowls is the biggest part of the fundraiser event.
Determined to be the only all-ceramics event, the silent auction is filled with pottery of all kinds, made by dozens of artists.
