Paul Layton Truett passed away in his home in Avondale, Arizona, on Sunday February 6, 2016, after a prolonged illness.
He was born on August 6, 1932, in Wapanucka, Oklahoma, to William Layton Truett of Wapanucka and Era McNutt of Itasca, Texas.
Like all the Truetts, he had an unending love of fishing. He and the family spent many hours on the banks of a beautiful lake catching the big one.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a wounded war veteran.
He made his obsession for semi-trucks into his life’s career as a cross-country truck driver. He was deservedly proud of his lifelong driving record of millions of miles with no accidents. He loved to tell his trucking stories, and he loved the taste of a big cigar. He was quite the jokester and was always pulling pranks on someone.
His passion was his family, especially his beloved wife Josephine “Jo.” Not only was she his soul mate and constant companion, but during his last years, she was his loving caregiver.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his two sisters Renda Jean Hotchkiss and Billie Ruth Smith; and Billie’s son Wesley Farmer. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ora Marie.
He is survived by his dear little wife Jo; four stepsons: Narshel and Doraleen (McComb) Day, Marvin and Bobbie (Stewart) Day, Melvin and former wife Angela (Martinez) Day, Randy and Crystal (Cortes) Day. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law William Hotchkiss; niece Teri Jean Hotchkiss and husband Allan Jackson; their son Jason and Jason’s daughter Hailey Jean; Jason’s partner Dustie and children Aubrey, Johnathan, Kaitlyn, Evan and Ryleigh; niece Julie Lynn Hotchkiss and her daughter Keri Lynn; Keri’s son Dakota Michael and Keri’s partner Michael; Julie’s son Dustin William; Dustin’s son Jacob; Dustin’s partner Melonie and children Josh and Carolyn.
