Broadcasting live, using a Foley Box for on-the-spot sound effects and a live band, KZMU will launch Episode One of “Downtown Abbey” on Saturday, Feb. 20. at 4 p.m.

You can hear it on 90.1 FM, 106.7 FM and online at

A host of talented local actors, musicians and crew will present Episodes 1, 2 and 3 on-air, before performing the final episode in front of an audience at Star Hall on Saturday, March 12, at 7 p.m.

The radio drama also features “alien” music by Moab Music Festival visiting artist Rob Schwimmer, performing on the Haken Continuum. Schwimmer recorded the short pieces last summer for the radio drama, when “Downtown Abbey” was still in the writing stages.

Inspired by her recent relocation to Moab, KZMU manager Marty Durlin wrote the satirical radio drama, which takes place in a parallel universe and features Edward Abbey’s “fifth cousin twice removed,” along with other colorful characters.

The cast includes Michael Ford (Stoke) Dunton, Christy Williams Dunton, Jenna Talbott, Keith G, Jim Saltsider, Jeremy Lynch, Melissa Graciosa, Brett Bentley, Zina Brown, Michaelene Pendleton, Doni Kiffmeyer and Marlene Mody.

The band includes Brian Coulter and Miriam Graham. Bob Owen is engineering, and Marty Durlin is directing, with assistance from Serah Mead.

The performance will be followed by a gala after-party at the Moab Valley Inn, featuring champagne, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages, along with a variety of food.

Tickets for the Star Hall performance are $15; tickets for the performance plus gala are $40.

All proceeds benefit KZMU, Moab’s community radio station. Tickets are available at KZMU, 1734 Rocky Road, and Back of Beyond Books, 83 N. Main St.
