In memory of Ed Nettell

November 26 1928 – August 9, 2024

Ed Nettell passed away August 9, 2024, in Moab, Utah.

Ed was born in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California, to John Nettell and Mabel Sandow Nettell in 1928. Both parents were lifelong residents of Nevada County. Ed’s grandparents emigrated from Cornwall, England, where both grandfathers had worked in the tin mines. That experience led them to the gold mines of California’s Mother Lode.

After graduating from Grass Valley High School in 1945, Ed attended the Berkeley campus of the University of California where he majored in mathematics and minored in music. At Cal he played in the university band, was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity, and was involved in the ROTC program, leaving with a second lieutenant’s commission in army ordnance.

Following his time in the army, he taught and counseled in California public schools for 38 years, retiring in 1990 from Mt. San Antonio College.

Among Ed’s interests were music (band in particular), photography, amateur radio, and stamp collecting. Ed is preceded in death by Artharene (Artie), his wife of 68 years, and survived by sons Walt, Chuck, and Andy, daughters-in-law Charlotte, Susan, and Marcee respectively, and grandchildren Alexa and Zach.
