Obituary: Shannon Irene Leek Wiggins

Shannon Irene Leek Wiggins, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend,  passed away at the age of 90 on October 5 at the Canyonlands Care Center in Moab.

Shannon was born on June 3, 1932, in Scofield, Utah, to Foster and Alta Leek. She had three older brothers and three younger brothers.

Shannon married J.B. Wiggins on December 15, 1951, in Price, Utah. J.B.’s job took them to many places in the West and, eventually, they settled in Moab where they had two children, Sharlene in 1953 and Jay in 1956.

Shannon was an active member of the LDS Church. The primary was her favorite place to service, as she loved children. Her grandchildren were her greatest blessing.

She was a long-time member of the Alpha Rho Sorority and loved serving the people of Moab. She enjoyed watching her kids’ and grandkids’ sports events, gardening and going for walks, especially with her family. Shannon was one of, if not THE biggest Utah Jazz fan. She never missed watching a game and was able to attend a few live games with her grandsons.

Shannon loved her job at Lema Trading.  She received many cards and letters from customers from around the world thanking her for her kindness and help.

Shannon was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband, J.B.; her son, Jay; and 5 of her brothers.

She is survived by her brother, Floyd Leek (Sylvia); her daughter, Sharlene Abbott (Kenny); and her 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.  She has many nieces and nephews.

The family of Shannon would like to thank Canyonlands Care Center administrative staff and caregivers for the love and care she received. Their devotion and dedicated care gave her so much happiness and love to the end.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Alpha Rho Sorority, in care of Bobby Long at 580 Nichols Lane, Moab, Utah 84532.

Funeral Services for Shannon will be held on October 17 at 11 a.m. with the viewing at 10 a.m. at the LDS chapel (400 North 475 West, Moab). Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her husband, J.B.
