KZMU to celebrate 26th birthday

KZMU, Moab’s community radio station, turns 26 on Monday, April 2. Supporters are invited to a birthday party at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center, 111 E. 100 North, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Admission is free and donations are welcome. Music will be provided by the Fiery Furnace Marching Band, with a cameo appearance by the cast of KZMU’s most recent radio play, “Beautiful Radiant Things.”

Beverages and birthday cake will be served, and KZMU Music Director Serah Mead will conduct a live auction of special items to benefit KZMU.

KZMU has now survived for nearly two years without funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which previously contributed $90,000 per year toward the station’s operations. CPB deemed KZMU “too small to survive” and pulled support in the fall of 2016.

KZMU has continued to create new and exciting programming, and recently hired journalist Molly Marcello, a former reporter for the Times-Independent for three years, to create a regular daily news report.

The KZMU News debuts at noon on KZMU’s birthday. Join others to celebrate on April 2, in the MARC’s side yard.
