Ten current and former female Grand County employees filed a formal Notice of Claim against the county today, alleging harassment and retaliation by county commissioners— specifically naming commissioners Bill Winfield and Brian Martinez. The notice represents the first formal step towards filing a lawsuit against the County.

“Our county, under this commission administrator’s leadership, has hit an all-time low,” McGann said. “They are creating a hostile, toxic work environment for all staff, but especially for the women working in this county. There has been a minimum of eight capable women leave this county because of harassment from some of our commissioners.”

Residents packed public comment to speak out on budget cuts that hit the Trail Ambassador program as Commissioners wrestled with a nearly $2 million budget shortfall. This year’s funding for the program survived extreme cuts- but eliminate the climbing and mountain biking ambassador programs. Other discussions touched on just what local trails e-bikes should be permitted on, special event permitting, and funding for emergency services.
Commissioners disagreed on Grand County’s financial prospects at the July 1 County Commission meeting. Debate included the 2025 budget and a revision to the HDHO ordinance, which ultimately passed.
The Grand County Commission approved special event grants, renewable energy agreements, and Arroyo Crossing infrastructure support, with all motions passing unanimously. Public hearings addressed budgets, wage adjustments, and land use updates.
Commission approved multiple grants and tax abatements, while a lease for Lion’s Back Resort’s airport ads passed 4-3.
