The Red Rock 4-Wheelers donate annually to different areas of the Moab community, and this year, the club donated more than $15,000 during its October meeting.
As always, donations to the Moab Police Department, Grand County Sheriff’s Department, Grand County Search and Rescue and the San Juan County Search and Rescue and Sheriff’s Department came first. This year, a joint donation of $3,000 went to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office and search and rescue team.
“Their hard work is greatly appreciated in keeping our community safe and rescuing those who get lost or injured while enjoying the canyon country,” the club said in a statement.
All other donations were chosen by club members who are also involved in other areas of the community and identified a need to the club. The recipients varied this year, with the addition of several groups the club hadn’t considered before.
Canyonlands PRCA Rodeo Club, the Moab Free Health Clinic, the Moab City Police Department, the Moab Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of Moab Canyonlands Healthcare received $1,500 each. Another $1,500 went to the Grand County High School girls softball team for new uniforms; the team received an additional donation of $2,000. The club also donated $1,000 to Moab Community Stage, and $500 to the Moab Lions Club.
Unable to attend the meeting were representatives from the San Juan County Search and Rescue, which received $1,500; and representatives from Helen M. Knight Elementary School’s Fifth Grade class, who received $500 for their trip to Boston.
