Life is short but sunsets are forever.
Jack was born on December 26, 1949, in Moab to John Wallace (Wally) and Naoma Spear Corbin. He died peacefully at home on ‘The Mountain’ on July 12, 2023.
Jack was the oldest of five siblings and the big brother to Mike, Mari Lynn (deceased 1953), Rhonda and Leslie.
Jack married Cindy Jackson on November 1, 1969. They made their home in Moab and welcomed their only son, James Wallace (Jamie), to their family in 1973.
To know Jack was to love Jack. He was a unique and gentle soul, just one of those people you meet that you can’t ever forget. There is no one like him. He would do all he could for anyone he knew if they were in need. Jack loved animals as much as people. Sometimes more. He had many horses and dogs through the years that were true and loyal companions. He was known as the “Jack of all Trades.” He could do it all in any area he chose to lend his talents.
Jack worked for Midland Telephone company, Corbin Communications, which Jack, his father Wally and brother Mike owned and operated. Later, Jack worked for Mogensen Electric alongside his brother-in-law, Jeff Mogensen. Jack’s love for big machines and the outdoors gave him the opportunity to work in several areas of construction. Keogh Construction, K-Sue Construction, and Jack Corbin Construction were among them.
Besides his family, Jack had one true love: The Mountain. He was lovingly known as the “Guardian of the Gate,” “Mountain Monarch,” and “Original Mountain Man.” There was nothing he loved more than that mountain at sunset. The sunset is what drew him outside. Most nights around that time, you’d find him driving the property, stopping along the way to visit with siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews and admiring the rays from all of the different vantage points.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wally and Naoma Corbin; grandparents Corbin; grandparents Spear; baby sister, Mari Lynn; beloved uncle, Dennis Spear; baby niece, Jessalyn Ashley; and father-in-law, Jim Jackson.
Jack is survived by his wife, Cindy Corbin; son, James Corbin; grandchildren John David Corbin, Miranda Olivia Corbin, and James Wallace Jr. (Jimmy) Corbin; siblings Mike (Doni) Corbin, Rhonda (Jeff) Mogensen and Leslie Corbin; mother-in-law, Joan Jackson; five brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jack was dearly loved and will be dearly missed. The Mountain will never be the same.
A sunset service will be held on Friday, July 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Spanish Valley Mortuary (386 N. 100 West). A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at the Grand Valley Cemetery on Millcreek Road.
