The Grand County High School girls basketball team dropped a pair of region games in Moab, falling 56-33 to South Sevier on Friday, Feb. 2, and 78-32 to Richfield on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Grand played a much closer game with South Sevier than it did in the first meeting, which the Lady Rams won 75-34. However, junior Hannah Owen was held to an uncharacteristically low two points.
Junior Veda Gritts scored 16 points and had 12 rebounds, while junior Annabelle Garrett scored nine points.
The next day, Richfield beat Grand more handily in Moab than it did in Richfield. In their first meeting, the Lady Wildcats beat Grand 51-32. In Saturday’s 78-32 shellacking, Richfield outscored the Lady Red Devils 47-12 in the second half alone. Gritts was Grand’s leading scorer with 13 points.
With the losses, Grand (8-11, 4-6) continues to sit fifth in the Region 15 standings, but is already guaranteed a playoff spot thanks to six spots in the bracket being reserved for Region 15 this season. Grand was scheduled to play its home finale versus Emery on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Grand’s final regular season game is at San Juan in Blanding on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 4:30 p.m. First-round games in the state tournament are Friday, Feb. 16, at Orem High School. Quarterfinals, seminfinals and the title game will take place Feb. 22-24 at Dixie State University in St. George.
