Moab Charter School enrolled in the Scripps National Spelling Bee for the first time this year, and sixth-grade student Sadie Groene (front, second from left) was named the school’s spelling bee champion.
Sadie advanced to the next K-8 round hosted at Helen M. Knight Elementary in February, where she took first place in a heated round against middle schoolers and was declared Grand County’s spelling bee champion.
On Thursday, March 8, Sadie was scheduled to compete in the next regional round hosted in Green River.
“We are very excited to see what this young girl can do,” MCS sixth-grade teacher Bettina Oesch said. “Sadie is no ordinary kid and is an example of academic excellence.”
