About 160 people gathered on Saturday, June 30, at the Moab Information Center for a “Families Belong Together” rally to protest the Trump administration’s policy of forcibly separating children from their parents at the southern border; they also demanded that the separated families be reunited. The event was held simultaneous to rallies nationwide. Rally participants said they hope to send the Trump administration a clear message in support of keeping families together. Moab residents Sue and Roy Hoard were among those in attendance at the protest. Roy said, “I believe in unity and not division, and there’s enough strife and division in the world. We need to come together to realize we’re all human beings in this planet. We’re in this sinking boat together, folks, we’ve got to help each other out.” Former and current city and county council members were at the rally, including Moab Mayor Emily Niehaus, who read the proclamation “Keep Families Together” before protest participants marched down both sides of Main Street.
