Southeast Utah Health Department Health Officer Brady Bradford says that in the last few days, Moab has seen an increase in influenza cases.
Individuals who have received the flu vaccine are reporting less severe symptoms than those who have not yet been vaccinated. As residents prepare to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, the health department is reminding people to wash their hands and stay away from groups.
If you are experiencing unusual fatigue, soreness, nausea or vomiting, wear a mask, and if you are experiencing symptoms, contact your health care provider.
Statistics regarding the number of flu cases in Moab have not yet been finalized, but the health department will keep the media informed as more information becomes available.
Flu shots are available from all three Southeast Utah Health Department offices in Price, Castle Dale and Moab for adults, seniors 65 and older, and children. A state-funded flu vaccine is available for children who qualify. The cost is $25 for those not covered by Medicaid, UMWA or Medicare.
Immunization clinic hours in Moab are from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays; residents must bring identification for all services.
