The Moab Music Festival and KZMU Moab Public Radio are teaming up for a new collaboration: Bach & Beyond.
The program of classical music can be heard on KZMU at 90.1 or 106.7 FM, and online at kzmu.org, on Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m.
Moab Music Festival Music Director Michael Barrett and Executive Director Laura Brown are hosting the program, with Festival Coordinator Erin Groves making guest appearances.
“I was excited when KZMU came to us with this idea of collaborating for a classical music program,” Brown said. “There are so many possibilities of furthering classical music within the community and supporting the school and community music programs through this partnership.”
Barrett hosted the first Bach & Beyond on May 29, remembering the beginnings of the 23-year-
old festival with co-founder Leslie Tomkins. Barrett’s next musical foray examined the classical style. On Sunday, July 3, longtime KZMU DJ Ed Nettle will host the program, which will feature a special Fourth of July-themed program of concert band music.
Classical music programming from WFMT in Chicago is alternating with Bach & Beyond. For 65 years, WFMT has presented classical music and fine arts programs for Chicago and beyond.
KZMU Program Director Christy Williams has selected a series of four programs focusing on Native American and Maori music called TALOA, the Chickasaw word for song. Composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate guides a series that features performances by Kiri Te Kanawa, Hilary Hahn and the San Francisco Symphony. A collaboration between WFMT and Radio New Zealand Concert, TALOA is supported by the MacArthur Foundation.
MMF hosts present classical music on Sundays from 5 to 7 p.m.
