Grand County EMS presented its Life-Saver Award to Melissa Hulls last week, honoring the National Park Service ranger as she leaves the area after more than a decade of service.
Hulls responded to 586 medical emergencies alongside Grand County EMS between November 2015 and January 2026 — the last one making her late to her own award ceremony when she stopped to assist an incident in Arches National Park.
During her 11 years in the parks, Hulls served as an Incident Commander, National Park Ranger, and EMT.
“Mel’s calm leadership, selfless dedication, and steadfast partnership have saved numerous lives and left a lasting impact on our community and the visitors we serve,” the award inscription reads.
Grand County EMS called Hulls “an unwavering presence in the parks” and “a vital part of our extended EMS family.”
Hulls is relocating for a new position outside Grand County.
