December 20, 1948 – January 13, 2026
On January 13, 2026, Janice Geree Shupe passed away peacefully at the age of 77 in Moab.
Janice was born in Naturita, Colorado, on December 20, 1948, to Willis Ferguson and Wilma McGinnis as the first of five children.
She attended Grand County High School and graduated in 1967. That same year, she married Robert Joe “Bob” Shupe, and they had five children: Billy Bob, Hyrum, Nugget, Shasta, and BJ. Janice worked at A&W, State Farm Insurance, and Red Cliffs Lodge.
She enjoyed card making, scrapbooking, painting, and sewing. She loved adventure movies but did not love the “lovie-dovie” ones. Janice could always be found reading a good book and drinking a Diet Coke.
Janice is survived by her siblings Dee and Kristy Ferguson, Glenna Oliver, Danita Ferguson, and Monie and Paul Partridge; her children, Hyrum Shupe, Nugget and Maria Shupe, and BJ and Chad Bigler; her grandchildren, Kylee, Casey, Sierra, Paisley, Carston, and Corbin; and one great-grandson, Jak. She also leaves behind five step-grandchildren: Abby, Madi, Clayton, Sophia, and Sammy; and five step great-grandchildren: Navy, Kaizlee, Hazel, Scarlett, and Kohen. Janice also had many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, her son Billy Bob, and daughter Shasta.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 17 at Spanish Valley Mortuary. Janice will be buried with her husband at Grand Valley Cemetery at a later date.
