Meow friends, it’s Cosmo the Library Cat with news about all the fun activities for kids coming up this month at Grand County Public Library. April has been simply splendid so far, with its warmer days and blooming flowers.
However, there’s more than just great weather making April so enjoyable. With blue and silver pinwheels adorning the building and grounds, the library is celebrating children in a big way with “Pinwheels for Prevention” in solidarity with the Family Support Center and Child Abuse Awareness month. But wait, there’s more!
What’s the Buzz? On Saturday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m., our good friends from the National Park Service are presenting a special storytime all about bees! It’s fun to watch these super-important pollinators buzzing from flower to flower. Pro tip: I do not recommend trying to catch them in your mouth. Despite their fuzzy and cute appearance they can pack a punch (and I’m talking about the bees here, not the Park Rangers).
On Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m., one of our beloved volunteers, Miss Linda, a retired zoo educator, will present a STEAM-focused program all about birds. Miss Linda is even bringing her own feathered friend, a parakeet named Angel, so you can meet a bird up close! (For reasons I cannot possibly fathom, I have been encouraged to go find something else to do on the other end of the library during this program.)
Next, the library is participating in “Chalk the Walk” on Tuesday, April 29. Stop by and use our colorful chalk to help us decorate the library’s sidewalks and courtyard area with drawings and inspirational messages. For a chance to win a prize, you can send a photo of your chalk art to: anoyes@grandcountyutah.net.
We’ll finish out the month with a joyful musical extravaganza on Wednesday, April 30 at 10:30 a.m. Award-winning, nationally touring children’s musician Evan Haller will give a special performance during our Toddler Time. Evan’s website describes his music as “the sound of Mr. Rogers sharing a burrito with Koo Koo Kangaroo.” Sounds delicious!
