Hello everyone, it’s Cosmo the Library cat. While I’m super excited about my birthday party on Thursday, January 16th, there’s another cool library event the very next evening; something a little more dangerous!
When you think of Film Noir, what springs to mind? Crime in dark alleyways? Doomed romances with femme fatales? Smoking pistols and cynical detectives?
The next movie in Grand County Public Library’s Classic Movie line-up has all of that and more! On Friday, January 17th @ 7 PM you’re invited to a free screening of “Kiss Me Deadly,” a Film Noir classic from 1955. Based on one of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer novels, “Kiss Me Deadly” will probably not seem terribly shocking by today’s standards, but in the 1950’s, it was considered by some to be a “menace to America’s youth.” Hard-boiled private investigator Mike Hammer is embroiled in a deadly mystery when he picks up a beautiful, barefooted hitchhiker who is running for her life. Danger and drama ensue. The original movie posters promised “blood-red kisses and white-hot thrills!” Color me intrigued!
With hot drinks, cookies and popcorn to sweeten the deal, this will be a perfect way to pass a dark winter evening. And for those of you who like to lounge, the librarians are excited to debut their brand-new giant bean bag chairs. As you know, we cats are connoisseurs of comfort and these have passed the Cosmo test with flying colors!
So, don your trench coats and fedoras (or come in your pajamas, we won’t judge!) and join us at the library for this smoldering cinematic masterpiece!
