Roberta “Bobbie” Fahler Long
February 18, 1928 – December 23, 2024

Roberta “Bobbie” Fahler Long was born in Edna, Kansas, on February 18, 1928.  The world lost a loving, selfless, and adored woman when Bobbie passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family on December 23, 2024.

She married Delbert Long in Coffeyville, Kansas, in September 1, 1946.  They were married for 62 years. Seeking new opportunities, they arrived in Utah in 1957 and raised two daughters in Moab.  They formed many lasting friendships in the small community.

Bobbie lived a life of community service.  She was honored as the Grand County Woman of Achievement in 2003. She was a dedicated volunteer who worked for the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. She also volunteered for the PTA, the Moab Regional Hospital, and the Girl Scouts, the Easter Seals, the Moab Valley Community Concert Association, and high school sports. She received Utah’s Silver Bowl Award from the Governor for recognition of her outstanding contributions to our community.

Bobbie was an active member of Alpha Rho Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha for 66 years. She received the Pallas Athene Award and the Woman of the Year honor during that time. She was especially proud of the philanthropic organization’s fund-raising activities for local charities and for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  She enjoyed league sports like golf, softball, and bowling.

Bobbie was a devoted member of the St. Francis Episcopal Church. She taught Sunday school and was an active member of the Guild of St. Clare. Children received candy and hugs from their “Miss Bobbie.”  Her favorite Bible verse was the Twenty-third Psalm. She lived her life with intention and shared her love freely.

The most important things to Bobbie were family, friends, and faith. She shared her loving heart with us for so many years. We will miss her selfless and generous spirit, her bright sense of humor, her can-do attitude, and her tender touch and warm hugs.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert, in 2009. She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Turvy of Moab and Sharon (Gus) Liapis of Dayton, Ohio; her five grandchildren, Cynthia (Mike) Hall of Salt Lake City, Phillip Liapis of Dayton, Stephanie (Martin) Jarmick of Sierra Madre, California, Scott (Darren) Liapis-Gero of San Francisco, California and Zach (Liz) Liapis of Dayton; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral service, followed by a celebration of life, will be held on February 15, 2025, at the St. Francis Episcopal Church (250 Kane Creek Boulevard, Moab).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to St. Francis Episcopal Church (Box 96, Moab, UT 84532) or to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
