Meow and hello friends. It’s Cosmo the Library Cat. I like to keep up with human customs and holidays, so I know that November is a great month for giving thanks, with an entire day set aside for it called, “Thanksgiving.”
The children’s room of the Grand County Public Library seems to have really gotten into the spirit of Thanksgiving this month. We have Thanksgiving books on display and two different turkey to-go crafts available. Our giant Whomping Willow has even been repurposed as a Thankfulness Tree, with our patrons writing what they are grateful for on leaves and pinning them to the tree. Most trees are losing their leaves this time of year, but not this one!
Gratitude doesn’t always come naturally to cats (you’ll find that demigods are just not used to it). However, our patrons have written such lovely things on the leaves of the Thankfulness Tree that I’m inspired to give this “gratitude” thing a try. I will now list some things that make me especially happy, and for convenience sake, I’ll call it “Cosmo’s Gratitude List”:
- Sunbeams. Best places to sleep. Magical, really.
- Catnip. (A big thank you to my nice gardener friend who keeps me well-supplied.)
- Lots and lots of comfy places to sleep, including my fancy new cat bed, even though I’m still getting used to it.
- All my servants, I mean friends, who work at the library. They are pretty good at doing my bidding, although I think they could be a little bit more generous with the snacks.
- My many loyal fans. You’re the best! For those of you who send me postcards and messages, keep them coming. They make us all so happy!
- My successful career as a calendar model. 2025’s Cosmo Calendar is now available at the library and is full of adorable pictures of yours truly.
- All our wonderful library patrons and visitors. You keep things interesting: it would be so dull in the library without you!
Please drop by the children’s room any time and add your own leaf to the Thankfulness Tree!
