Ah, Friday mornings. Usually, it’s a quiet time, good for napping in sunbeams and contemplating my privileged existence.

But next Friday is going to be different. On May 2 from 10 a.m. to noon, Grand County Public Library will be overrun by tiny humans for our second annual Books, Balls & Blocks event, courtesy of Help Me Grow Utah. Parents and caregivers of children ages 0 to 5 years old are encouraged to join us for this free event. Even tiny babies can benefit!

Help Me Grow Utah brings together community partners from Moab and surrounding areas who focus on child development by supporting parents and helping children achieve their full potential. Each community partner will have a fun and playful activity for children which will identify developmental stages, and match the little ones with community organizations that can help them grow up smart and strong. But as far as the kiddos are concerned, it’s just one giant playdate!

As you have surmised, there will be opportunities to play with building blocks and bouncy balls. As tempting as it might be, I promise not to “accidentally” knock down any marvels of engineering that may be constructed with blocks. I will remain a dignified observer, and resist the urge to swipe at any balls that come zooming by. Well, maybe just once. For science.

Every kiddo gets to choose a free picture book to take home, and everyone who comes can enter a drawing for fun prizes!

All in all, it will be a fun and informative morning, and the nice librarians hope that you and your tiny humans will join us for this free event. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a sunbeam to track down.
