There is never a dull moment in Grand County Public Library’s children’s room, and Toddler Time has been livelier than ever! I recently snuck into the meeting room for a snooze on a quiet Wednesday morning, only to be rudely awakened by a ukulele duet, of all things! To escape, I had to tiptoe stealthily past Leroy, the Storytime Dog! He’s very cute and well-behaved, but, you know, he’s…a dog.
Even if Wednesdays are not the best day for a library cat to visit the children’s room, the kids have so much fun, and they really enjoy Leroy, so I guess I’m OK with it. Little humans and their grown ups are welcome to join Toddler Time for stories, songs and crafts (and a sweet doggo!) each Wednesday at 10:30 am.
September is going to begin with a bang. Or should I say it is going to begin with books, balls and blocks. On Friday, September 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the organization Help Me Grow Utah is partnering with the library and with lots of other people who care about helping children achieve their potential.
Each of these partners is going to have a game or activity or something fun for kids to do. The purpose is to help parents recognize stages of development and help the little ones catch up if they are struggling. We’ll be seeing the nice folks from Early Intervention, the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, Waterford Upstart, Parents as Teachers, and Sparkler, and I’ve heard that each child who attends will get to take home a free book!
I think it’s all pretty cool (after all, books, balls and blocks are among my favorite things) but it may be tough for me to catch my usual 40 winks at that time. It’ll be fun and informative for families, but I’ll probably be sailing the seas of snooze in my ship-shaped bed, the S.S. Catatonic, behind my buddy Tom’s desk where I’ll have some peace and quiet, having reached my full potential ages ago. See you in the library!
