Dino Storytime with Cosmo, the library cat

Hello and a hearty roar from your friend, Cosmo the Library Cat. Grand County Public Library is hosting a Dinosaur Storytime on Saturday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Moab Library. As a fan of both stories and dinosaurs, I’m pretty excited.

We will read several stories about dinosaurs, including “How Do Dinosaurs Eat Their Food?” by Jane Yolen, which discusses table etiquette for dinos: it gets pretty silly, as you can imagine. The illustrations are hilarious, with enormous dinosaurs seated at tiny human-sized tables. Each dinosaur in the story is identified by their scientific name, so we can learn about Mesozoic nomenclature and manners at the same time. There’s even a handsome tuxedo cat (no relation) who makes a cameo appearance on page 24.

After stories and songs about dinosaurs, we will repair to the library courtyard to excavate dinosaur figures, just like real paleontologists, and play “tricera-toss,” a game which involves throwing rings onto a triceratops’s horn, as you might have surmised. We’ll end with a paper craft: dinosaur headbands, August’s must-have fashion accessory.

This storytime is geared for kids 3- 8 and their grownups, but dinosaurs of all ages are welcome! We hope to see you there!
