Meow and ahoy mateys. It be Cosmo the Library Cat, here to invite you to “Outdoor Adventure: Be Prep-arrrrrrr-ed”–a special summer program from the Grand County Library where we’ll learn pirate survival skills!
Meet us at the Center Street Ballfields on Tuesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. to learn how to tie knots, read a compass, and follow a treasure map. We’ll dig for buried treasure and do a pirate-themed craft.
A pirate is always prepared for sunny hot weather–why do you think they wear those big hats? So dress for the sun and sprinklers (our sea monster sprinkler is making an appearance!) and bring plenty of water to drink.
At the end, we’ll decorate and devour pirate cookies. Reasonable people (and cats) can disagree about whether cookie-eating is a survival skill, but I think it counts. Keeping your energy up and staying hydrated are crucial outdoor preparedness skills!
Any pirate worth their salt knows all of these survival skills and more–and many of these skills can help us prepare for adventures closer to home, too. This pirate-themed adventure is geared to kids and families and is part of the Grand County Library’s Summer Reading Program. Hope to see you there!
