Hello everyone, it’s Cosmo the Library Cat. One of my favorite things about summer is the Summer Reading Program for All Ages at Grand County Public Library. This year’s theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library” and we’re hoping you’ll join the fun.
Anyone can participate in the library’s Summer Reading Challenges, from little babies to grandmas and grandpas. This year’s registration reward is truly magnificent–a newly designed sticker featuring yours truly, boating on the river. A must-have for any discerning library patron!
As you track your time spent reading, you will earn tickets for awesome prize drawings. There are super-cool reading rewards for the younglings: they can pick out fun prizes from our treasure chest for every hour they read, or are read to, up to 8 hours. It’s a fun and effective way to keep their literacy skills sharp over the summer.
This challenge isn’t just for regular books: eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, comic books and newspapers all count towards your reading total. And reading aloud to someone counts twice: once for the reader and once for the listener!
You can register for our reading challenges online using the Beanstack app or website at www.tinyurl.com/gcplreads. If you’d prefer not to do the online challenge, never fear! We also have paper reading and activity logs you can pick up at the library.
Finally, don’t miss our special events, planned every week through the end of July. Next is “Water Adventure” at the Center Street Ballfields on Tuesday, June 18 at 2 PM. The librarians are all a-twitter about an enormous sea serpent sprinkler that will make its debut next Tuesday!
As any seasoned adventurer knows, it is wise to be prepared, so bring water to drink, wear sun protection, and be ready to get wet. For a full list of library programs for children, visit www.tinyurl.com/gcplcp. Meow for now!
