Meow from your buddy, Cosmo the library cat. I’m so thrilled that it’s officially spring now! I get excited about all the cute baby animals that hatch or are born in the spring, from caterpillars to ducklings to fawns. Although I’m a big fan, I try not to get too close to babies of any kind (especially human babies – my poor tail!). Spring is the perfect time to learn more about these adorable little critters, either up close and personal at a farm, or from one of the amazing picture books Grand County Public Library has to offer about baby animals.
I highly recommend “Little Kids First Big Book of Baby Animals,” by National Geographic Kids. It’s full of cool pictures and fun facts about a variety of baby animals from all over the world. “Play in the Wild” depicts how different young animals romp and frolic. Reading this book makes me feel nostalgic for my own kittenhood when my siblings and I would stalk and pounce on each other and mew our most ferocious mews.
Of all baby animals, of course, kittens are the cutest. Tragically, none of my baby photos survive, an immeasurable loss to the art world and aesthetes everywhere. But in happier news, the library has several excellent picture books featuring other perfectly serviceable kittens. One of my favorites is “Kitten’s First Full Moon,” an award-winning picture book about an adorable little fluff-ball who makes some amusing assumptions when she sees her first full moon. I was never that foolish, but then, I’ve always been exceptionally bright.
I would never say so myself, but my adoring fans tell me that I’m just as cute now as I was as a kitten. So, if the baby animals you see around you don’t satisfy your craving for cuteness, feel free to stop by the library and see me. Bye for now!
