Hello friends. It’s Cosmo, your trusty library cat. We cats are pretty good at making our fun. We can play with just about anything: bugs, string, we even have fun chasing our tails! You humans, however, are sadly lacking tails, and I worry about you. I feel like you might need a little extra help keeping yourselves entertained.
Grand County Public Library can help! We’ve just started a new game club for the younglings. Every Wednesday at 3:30 in the Moab Library’s large meeting room we are setting up an assortment of board games and card games that can be played with others or by yourself, if you prefer. We’ll have some old favorites like Chutes and Ladders and Uno, along with some super-fun new games like My First Castle Panic, a cooperative game where players work together to save a castle from monsters. Plus, we’ll have snacks available to help keep you at the top of your game, if you’ll pardon the pun. You don’t need to register ahead of time; just stop by! The club is geared for kids 3 to 12 and their caregivers, but everyone is welcome.
Most games involve skills and strategies, so reading about games can be helpful if you want to up your game (sorry, I can’t help myself). The library has lots of books about chess that can help you hone your skills. If you’re into Minecraft you’ll discover cool new builds and useful hacks by exploring our extensive Minecraft book collection. We also have books about Dungeons and Dragons, books about card games and math games and even books to help you write code for your own computer games.
Here are a few useful tips: If you ever get frustrated while playing a game, it may help to take a break from it. Get a friend to zoom a laser pointer around so you can chase after the ever-elusive red dot. Even if you never catch it, don’t get upset: remember, it’s just a game! Grab that laser pointer yourself and give it a twirl for your favorite cat. Petting a cat, especially a tuxedo cat, can also help clear your head, as can a little retail therapy: treat yourself to some fancy cat treats! Oh, you don’t like cat treats? It’s fine if you want to leave them here. We hope to see you soon, and game on!
