Meow and hello! It’s Cosmo the library cat, here to help you ring in the new year!
For humans, this is a season to reflect on the past year and to think about what habits you want to carry forward into the new year and what you’re ready to leave behind.
Having already achieved feline perfection, I humbly offer myself as a role model in your quest for self-improvement. Here’s my helpful list of resolutions for humans who aspire to be more cat-like in 2024.
- Get plenty of rest. There’s no bad place and no bad time to take a nap.
- Prioritize personal grooming; it will boost your confidence and enhance your dignity. Keep your paws neat and don’t neglect your whiskers (if applicable).
- Get plenty of exercise. Chase a laser or a ribbon on a stick, bat a pompom around. These are all activities you can do at home, without a fancy gym membership.
- Eat a balanced diet. Pre-portioned kibble is the easiest way to do this, but I’m told humans may prefer something called “meal planning.” And don’t forget to eat plenty of greens! Catnip is my favorite vegetable, but you do you.
- Practice gratitude! Do not complain that your kibble rations are too small; instead, be grateful for what’s in your bowl.
- Limit social media. Too much social media use can lead to jealousy and discontent. Seeing endless snaps of my glossy, lustrous coat reasonably makes people unhappy about their coats; that’s why I stay off social media altogether. (That and I forgot my SnapCat password.)
- Better time management. I’m a busy cat, and people sometimes ask me how I manage to patrol the library courtyard, sit on the newspapers, monitor the circulation desk, grace patrons with my presence, and still get my 16 hours of sleep a day. The answer: time management. Plan out your day in the morning and protect your time. Don’t be afraid to say no to an extended shelf lounge if it conflicts with the time you’ve slated for ear scratches.
- Spend more time at the library. The whole place has good vibes, and you feel smarter just walking in the door. It’s made me the cat I am today.
Best of luck and can’t wait to see you at Grand County Public Library in the new year!
