The Synergy Company stuck out to Silver Turner, a senior at Grand County High, for the company’s focus on sustainability and overall uniqueness in the community. He’s in the business pathway and is a member of DECA, a career and technical education club that focuses on leadership and entrepreneurship.
Silver is part of The National Honor Society, and he plays soccer and runs cross country. Outside of school, he is interested in film production and works at ar-tee-sian, a local clothing store.
GCHS sends a new group of students into the community every quarter through its work-based learning program. These students become radiologists, teachers, journalists and so much more for seven weeks. Through this program, these interns begin to get an idea of what they might want to do after school and learn boundless information about their field. As an intern for the Sun News this quarter, I followed a new student every week to get a sense of their experience.
Silver has been working with the procurement team at Pure Synergy, who deal with the purchasing and selling of products.
With them he is writing quarterly business reports, or QBRs, which keep track of who the company bought or sold to, amount of product, and cost.
“So far I’ve made a list of the top 25 companies that they work with, and I’m working on another right now,” he said.
His day-to-day looks pretty similar, consisting of sitting and working at the computer filling out these reports.
Synergy’s mission statement is to “nourish and enhance your life experience.” They make a number of nutritional supplements using organic ingredients.
Silver said the company makes a variety of health food supplements including general multivitamins for both men and women as well as capsules for bone, eye, and heart health. Using natural ingredients, they are able to target specific parts of the body, even mental health.
The company was founded in 1992 by Mitchell May. Since then they have been growing to supply all over the state with their accessible online store, and can be found in town inside stores such as Moonflower Market. They also often sponsor local events to showcase and grow business.
After high school Silver is thinking of getting a degree in business. He hopes the field will be versatile enough to serve as a stepping stone to a variety of careers, as he’s not sure what exactly he wants to do following college. In the meantime, he’s exploring the world and what it has to offer.
