This month, the Moab Sun News is turning to local experts to give us all some advice on working toward actually keeping New Year’s resolutions for 2023.
This week, we talked to Emily Klarer and Casey Montandon, coaches and owners of the Gym on 5th. The Gym on 5th just celebrated six years in business in Moab providing classes focused on general physical preparedness, endurance and working with heavy loads.
These folks are experts on making people sweat. So what’s their advice on how to get strong in 2023? Their answer: know yourself!
Try out a wide variety of exercise types
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to getting fit. You have to find what works best for your specific goals, your schedule, your budget, your personality, etc. Whether it be running or hiking with friends outside, strength training on your own at the gym or at home, or group fitness classes, try it all and see what gets you excited! If you enjoy it, you will be much more likely to stick with it for years to come.
Set smaller, bite-size goals
While long-term goals are valuable to consider, try easier to achieve goals like “This week I will go to the gym twice.” Thinking about an entire year can be a bit overwhelming and lead to burnout before you even get started. Setting manageable, achievable goals for the week ahead can be very rewarding and will encourage you to keep going!
