Obituary: Devon Johnnie Shepardson

Devon Shepardson passed away at her home in Fruita, Colorado on October 1, 2022.

Devon was born on September 6, 1974, in Grand Junction, Colorado. She grew up in Spanish Valley, where she lived with her mother and father, Elisia and Vern Shepardson. She attended school in Moab and, in 1990, she was selected to be an exchange student and spent her junior year attending school in Spain. She always said that was one of the best years of her life. She graduated from Grand County High School in May of 1992.

Shortly after graduation, Devon moved to Grand Junction to attend Mesa State University and worked part-time before giving up on school. In the winter of 1993, Devon found out that she was pregnant with her first child. She was very excited to become a mother. On August 20, 1994, her first son, Anthony, was born. That little boy was the light of her life and brought her unbridled joy.

In 1995, Devon and her son moved back to Moab so they would be closer to family. She worked at Wendy’s until 1996 when she decided to move to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a new adventure. After six months of living in Las Vegas, Devon and Anthony moved back to Moab.

In 2003, Devon met Ryan Farabee. They decided to get married in September 2003 and Devon had her second child, Noah Farabee, on September 27, 2004. Devon was very happy when he was born, for now Anthony had a little brother to play with and love. Unfortunately, Devon and Ryan’s marriage ended in October of 2008.

Devon raised her boys and worked at Zion’s Bank after the end of her marriage. Her friendly attitude and big heart made her numerous friends while employed at Zion’s. Devon never had a hard time finding work because of her friendly personality. She loved her time in the banking industry the most, as she felt like that was what she was meant to do.

On February 17, 2011, her third son, Josiah, was born. Devon loved her boys with all of her heart. It was hard work, raising three boys and holding down a full time job. Thankfully, her older boys and her family were able to help her with her youngest son. On November 3, 2018, Devon gained a fourth child when her oldest son, Anthony, married Michelle Lopez. She was so proud of them that her heart just swelled with joy.

Devon felt like she needed a fresh start, so she and her youngest son, Josiah, moved to Fruita, Colorado. On August 24, 2022, Devon was overjoyed as her first grandchild, Quinten Lee Shepardson, was born to Anthony and Michelle. The last few years of Devon’s life were a struggle, but her love for her family and especially her children was always evident. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.

Devon is survived by her mother, Elisia Shepardson; son, Anthony, and his wife, Michelle; grandson, Quinten Lee; son, Noah Farabee; son, Josiah Shepardson; brother, Emilio Martinez and his wife, Claudia; sister, JoAnn Valdez; special niece, Dusty Osborn; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Devon was preceded in death by her father, Vern Shepardson; grandparents, Pefe and Jessie Duran; and grandfather, Narcizo Martinez.

Funeral services were held on October 10 in Moab at the Community Church with internment at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
