Hello my friends, it’s Cosmo the library cat. Don’t you just love summer? These long warm days make me want to find a cool place to laze around and lose myself in a book. This summer, any reading you do can help the library. How? Join the Community Wide Reading Challenge!
This summer, we have a modest goal of half a million minutes spent reading. 500,000 minutes of reading is a lot, more than one cat (even a highly learned cat such as myself) can do in a year. However, if a bunch of us contribute, it will be easy!
Here’s how: Sign up for the Grand County Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge and keep track of all the time you spend reading. Once we have collectively read 500,000 minutes, the Friends of the Library and Usborne Books Literacy for a Lifetime will donate $1,000 worth of children’s books to the library!
You can also earn rewards for both for registering and for reading: all youth who register get a coupon for a free personal pizza for Canyon Pizza Co.! Reading aloud counts twice – once for the reader and once for the listener! Adults that register earn a brand new Cosmo sticker, with a lovely coral background that really makes my black fur pop.
And it’s not just books that count for the reading challenge. Magazines, audiobooks, graphic novels and newspapers also count. So sign up now and add reading this Cosmo’s Corner to your reading log!
To register and log your time reading, go to tinyurl.com/gcplreads or download the Beanstack app on your phone. Or, if you prefer, our library staff can log your time spent reading for you! Just give the librarians a call or come into the library. That’s all for this week, I need to get back to my book. I hope you are having a great summer. Toodle-meow!
