Read the world!

Cosmo the Library Cat, a handsome tuxedo cat with green eyes, perches on a windowsill.

Bonjour everyone, it’s Cosmo the library cat. Sometimes I think it would be wonderful to travel the world. This would give me a chance to try all sorts of foreign cuisine! Fish tacos? Yes, please! However, I usually don’t really want to leave the luxury of my home at the Grand County Public Library. Luckily, it’s possible to explore other places without going far. We can just check out the travel books at the library!

For adults, there are books likeAtlas Obscura: An Explorer’s Guide to the World’s Hidden Wonders,” which covers fascinating, little-known places around the world, or “I Should Have Stayed Home: The Worst Trips of Great Writers,” a collection of interesting and often hilarious first-hand accounts of horrible travel experiences. To avoid these kinds of disasters while traveling, may I suggest National Geographic’s “How to Be the World’s Smartest Traveler,” which is full of helpful advice.

For younger patrons, “The Travel Book: A Journey Through Every Country in the World” from Lonely Planet Kids and “The Atlas Obscura Explorer’s Guide for the World’s Most Adventurous Kid” are full of intriguing facts about diverse places. “101 Places You Gotta See Before You’re 12!” suggests interesting locations for kids to visit that often can be found close to home, like a ghost town or a skate park. This book made me appreciate my own corner of the world, where there is plenty to explore right nearby. However, if any of you adventurers decide to travel to a faraway place, I would love to receive a postcard! Au revoir, mes amis! Miaou!
